| Beschrijving keerzijde | A large eagle stands facing, with wings fully spread, its head turned to the right and tail feathers also directed right; the bird holds a wreath in its beak, a common emblem of imperial power on provincial coinage of this period. Between the eagle's legs, a small shrine or naiskos with a pediment is depicted, likely representing a local cult building associated with Edessa. The composition fills the flan boldly, in the tradition of Mesopotamian provincial tetradrachms. The reverse legend in Greek characters, divided across the field, records the emperor's tribunician power and consulship. |
