A circular Greek legend surrounds the bust within the field, the flan exhibiting an irregular edge with a notable chip at the upper right. | Descrizione del rovescio | The lunar deity Mên stands facing right, a crescent moon positioned behind his shoulders as his principal divine attribute. In his right hand he holds a pine cone, while his left hand is supported by a long spear or sceptre resting on the ground. At his feet to the right lies a bucranium (ox skull), a sacrificial symbol commonly associated with this Anatolian deity. The reverse field carries a dedicatory inscription in Greek arranged around the figure, recording the benefaction of the local magistrate Menekles. |
