| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter front view, with a gorgoneion displayed prominently on the cuirass. An aegis drapes over the left shoulder, accompanied by a spear resting against it, lending the portrait a martial and imperial character. The bust is depicted with careful attention to the decorative elements of the armor, consistent with the elaborate provincial die-cutting tradition of Asia Minor. The encircling obverse legend identifies the emperor in full titulature in Greek characters. |
