正面描述 Confronted busts of Caracalla and Geta, both laureate, draped, and cuirassed, facing one another across the field: the bust of Caracalla appears at right facing left, and the bust of Geta at left facing right, each seen from the rear. The peripheral Greek legend encircles the entire obverse, identifying both imperial co-rulers by name and title.

附加信息

The Didymeia were the great festival games held in honor of Apollo at Didyma, just south of Miletus, where the sanctuary of Apollo Didymaeus housed one of the antiquity's most celebrated oracles. The Commodeia suffix grafted onto the festival name reflects Commodus's demand that cities rename civic institutions after him — a practice Miletus had adopted and, notably, retained even after his assassination in 192 AD and official damnatio memoriae. Severus, who rehabilitated Commodus's memory and had him deified, would have found the persistence of that title politically agreeable.
