The portrait is rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style, with bold, somewhat broad modeling typical of Egyptian mint workmanship. The Greek legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the empress as Augusta and daughter of the deified Pius. The regnal year date appears in the field, rendered in the standard Alexandrian dating formula using the Egyptian calendar year. The reverse composition reflects the Alexandrian mint's frequent use of Athena as a reverse type, drawing on both Greco-Roman and local religious traditions. |
