| Beschrijving keerzijde | The sacred boat (baris) of Sarapis depicted in profile, carrying three syncretic deities seated and standing aboard an oared vessel. Sarapis is enthroned at centre facing left, holding a long sceptre, with Cerberus at his feet; to the left, veiled Demeter stands facing right, holding a torch; to the right, Tyche stands holding a rudder and cornucopia. All three figures wear the kalathos (modius) headdress, emphasising their divine syncretism within the Alexandrian religious milieu. The regnal date in the left field identifies this issue as belonging to the second year of Antoninus Pius's reign. |
