Sardes held the rare distinction of being a twice-neokoros city — the Β ΝΕΩ in the legend acknowledges that honor, granted for maintaining two imperial cult temples. The office of Rufinus named in the inscription places this coin within a specific magistracy, though the individual himself remains difficult to pin down against surviving epigraphic records from the Sardian conventus.
