Iulia Gordus was a small Lydian city whose coins consistently name the local magistrate responsible for the issue — the ΕΠΙ ΠΟΠΛΙΟΥ formula indicating a Roman citizen, likely a Greek-named local notable bearing a Latin praenomen, holding the civic post of grammateus or strategos during Trajan's reign. This naming convention was common across the Sardis conventus but survives patchily, making magistrate-attributed bronzes useful anchors for sequencing the city's otherwise poorly documented civic chronology.
