| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus (attributed) facing right, rendered three-quarter view from the rear, a common provincial convention. The imperial effigy displays the characteristic military dress of the Severan period, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The obverse legend encircles the bust in Greek characters, identifying the emperor by his adopted Antonine titulature. |

| Additional information |
Heraclea Pontica maintained an unusually tenacious civic coinage tradition under the Severan dynasty, continuing to strike bronzes long after many neighboring Pontic cities had surrendered that privilege. Elagabalus, who came to power at fourteen following the Battle of Raphana and whose four-year reign was marked by religious controversy in Rome, apparently posed no administrative obstacle to the city's mint operations.
The VI#3539 reference places this among a well-documented but sparsely surviving series.
