| Opis rewersu | River god Astraios, the local deity of Metropolis, reclines to the left in a relaxed pose, holding a reed in one hand and resting his arm upon an overturned water urn from which water flows. The figure is depicted in the conventional Hellenistic tradition for personified river deities. The ethnic legend of the Metropolitans is disposed around the reverse field. The type reflects the civic pride of Metropolis in its local mythological traditions. |
