Karim Khan Zand never took the title of Shah, ruling instead as Vakil ol-Ro'aya — "Advocate of the People" — a deliberate political posture that set his regime apart from every other Persian dynasty of the period. This coin was struck during the height of his consolidation of power from Shiraz, which he rebuilt extensively and made his administrative capital after decades of post-Safavid fragmentation had left Iran without a stable center.
The Shiraz mint was among the most active under Zand administration, and Type C issues reflect a stabilization of the abbasi standard after earlier recoinage difficulties.
