Two symmetrically placed arrows or lightning bolts flank the sphere at left and right. The circular legend SUBQ. SIGN. NATA STAB. (an abbreviated Latin motto meaning 'born and stabilised under this sign') runs around the periphery, referencing the emblematic importance of the armillary sphere as a symbol of the Portuguese Crown and Brazil. |
