| Descrizione del dritto | Draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief with flowing, elaborately curled hair characteristic of the Baroque portrait style. The effigy occupies the central field, with the mintmark 'R' (Rio de Janeiro) positioned immediately below the truncation and the date '1727' in the lower exergual area. The surrounding legend reads IOANNES V D G PORT ET ALG REX, denoting the king's titles as sovereign of Portugal and the Algarves. The portrait displays fine engraving detail in the hair and drapery, consistent with early 18th-century Portuguese colonial coinage. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | The Portuguese royal coat of arms of João V, representing the first shield type, is displayed centrally on a baroque-style escutcheon supported by two rampant lions as supporters on either side. The shield bears the traditional Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) within an ornamental framework of scrolling acanthus mantling. The whole achievement is surmounted by a royal crown of open arched form. The reverse field is unlettered, with no surrounding legend, and the overall design is bold and deeply struck in the high-relief Baroque tradition of early 18th-century Brazilian colonial gold coinage. |
