| Popis rubu | The Portuguese royal coat of arms of João V, representing the first shield type, is displayed centrally on a baroque-style escutcheon supported by two rampant lions as supporters on either side. The shield bears the traditional Portuguese quinas (five escutcheons arranged in a cross) within an ornamental framework of scrolling acanthus mantling. The whole achievement is surmounted by a royal crown of open arched form. The reverse field is unlettered, with no surrounding legend, and the overall design is bold and deeply struck in the high-relief Baroque tradition of early 18th-century Brazilian colonial gold coinage. |
