The effigy is portrayed in a stately Baroque style consistent with Spanish royal portraiture of the mid-18th century. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, interrupted at the base by the date 1748 in the exergual area. The legend reads FERDINANDUS VI D G HISP REX, affirming the king's title by divine right. The coin's milled edge is clearly visible on the obverse rim. |

Fernando VI's reign produced almost no gold coinage from the American mints during these two years — the 8 escudos issues of 1747–48 came primarily from Madrid and Seville, at a moment when the Spanish crown was actively restructuring its monetary administration following the death of Philip V in 1746. The transition introduced minor but documented inconsistencies in die preparation across mints, and pieces from this transitional window carry varying degrees of planchet roughness as a result.
Cal#30 is among the scarcer early Fernando VI references, with survivors in collectible condition genuinely difficult to locate.
