| Obverse description | The crowned royal arms of Portugal occupy the central field, displaying the traditional quartered escutcheon with the five quinas (blue shields bearing five white bezants in saltire) arranged in a cross pattern, encircled by the bordure of castles. The shield is surmounted by an ornate royal crown. A peripheral legend in Latin encircles the design, separated from the toothed border by a beaded inner rim, with small quatrefoil ornaments punctuating the field on either side of the arms. |

| Reverse description | A large Cross of the Order of Christ (Cruz de Cristo) dominates the central field, rendered in a floriated style with rounded terminals. Small decorative rosettes are placed in each of the four corners formed by the arms of the cross. A Latin motto legend encircles the entire design within a beaded inner border, with asterisks used as word separators, and the whole is enclosed by a toothed outer rim. |
