| Descrição do anverso | Left-facing draped bust of Srimath Anagarika Dharmapala occupies the central field, rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail. A circular legend in Latin, Sinhala, and Tamil scripts surrounds the portrait, reading the honoree's full name in all three languages. Below the bust, the dates '1864 - 2014' are inscribed, flanked by decorative laurel sprigs, with the numeral '150' prominently displayed in the lower field to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary. The coin is framed by a decorative beaded border with a repeating ornamental outer rim. |

| Descrição do reverso | The central field bears the large bold numeral '500' as the face value, below which the denomination is inscribed in three languages: Sinhala ('රුපියල් පන්සියයයි'), Tamil ('ஐந்நூறு ரூபாய்'), and Latin ('FIVE HUNDRED RUPEES'). The country name 'SRI LANKA' appears in Latin script on the right, with 'ශ්රී ලංකා' in Sinhala at the top and 'இலங்கை' in Tamil on the left, all arranged around the inner field. The date '2014' is inscribed in the lower portion, flanked by decorative arrow and laurel motifs. A beaded inner border and ornamental repeating outer rim frame the entire design. |

Anagarika Dharmapala remains one of the most consequential figures in modern Buddhist history — a Sinhalese activist who, in 1891, co-founded the Maha Bodhi Society with the explicit goal of returning the Bodh Gaya temple complex in India to Buddhist control after centuries under Hindu administration. He died in 1933, having taken full monastic ordination only months before his death, and was posthumously given the title "Srimath" by the Sri Lankan government. This 2014 issue marks the 150th anniversary of his birth.
