Reverse description A richly detailed high-relief depiction of the Nativity scene fills the field. At centre, the haloed figures of Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary, both draped in flowing robes, lean tenderly over the Infant Jesus held between them. To the left, two crowned and bearded Magi bearing gifts are shown in three-quarter view; a third Magus, also bearded and bearing a vessel, appears to the right. Above the central group, a winged angel with a radiant halo hovers with outstretched arms against a star-scattered sky, the whole composition rendered in a devotional, Renaissance-inspired style. The legend NATIVITY arcs along the upper border in serif capital letters.

Additional information

The Bank of Central African States issues commemorative coinage on behalf of six member nations — Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gabon — under a monetary union whose franc was pegged to the French franc until 1999 and has since been pegged to the euro at a fixed rate of 655.957 CFA per euro. The commemorative program operates largely as a revenue-generating exercise for the issuing authority, with pieces produced for the collector market and rarely, if ever, circulating in the member states.

At 155.5 grams of .999 copper, the economics are straightforward: spot copper value is negligible, and the premium is carried entirely by the subject matter and limited production run.
