| Obverse description | Printed in dark green on a pale guilloche underprint, the note is framed by an ornate border of repeating rosette and lozenge motifs. The text is set in Gothic blackletter script, with the denomination 'Fünfhunderttausend Mark' occupying the central field in large display type below the issuing authority legend 'Gutschein der Stadt Barmen'; a faint oval watermark-style vignette of the Barmen city arms appears as an underprint behind the denomination. To the right, a decorative cartouche encloses the numeral '500,000' above the word 'Mark' in Gothic lettering, and a red circular official stamp of the Oberbürgermeisteramt Barmen is applied within an ornamental frame; the issue date 'den 4.
