Obverse description Central vignette in intaglio engraving of the Monument to the Heroes of October 9, 1820 (Monumento a los Próceres del 9 de Octubre de 1820), set within an arched guilloche frame flanked by ornate rosette medallions bearing the numeral 50 on each side. The bank title BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR runs along the top, with SOCIEDAD ANONIMA below, and the denomination CINCUENTA SUCRES appears in a bold intaglio band at the foot of the note. Issue date and place QUITO, Julio 17 de 1974 appear at lower right, with serial numbers in red and signature lines for GERENTE GENERAL, SUPERINTENDENTE DE BANCOS, and VOCAL across the lower margin.

Reverse description The central design is dominated by the Ecuadorian national coat of arms in fine intaglio engraving, framed by elaborate scrollwork and flanked by large guilloche rosette medallions bearing the numeral 50 at left and right. A condor with spread wings surmounts the shield, which carries a river scene with a steamer and a snow-capped volcano beneath a radiant sun. The bank title BANCO CENTRAL DEL ECUADOR is inscribed at the top, and the denomination legend CINCUENTA SUCRES appears within an ornate cartouche at the base of the note.
