| Description du revers | The central design features a bold raised (or incuse, depending on variety) topographic map of Iran occupying the majority of the field, with the Caspian Sea (دریای مازندران) labelled within the northern portion of the map and the Persian Gulf (خلیج فارس) indicated at the southern boundary. The Arabic slogan 'استقلال آزادی جمهوری اسلامی' (Independence, Freedom, Islamic Republic) is distributed around the periphery, reading from upper centre to the sides. The Solar Hijri date '١٣۶۶' (1366) is inscribed in Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals along the lower exergue. The cartographic rendering is detailed, conveying national territorial identity as a primary design motif. |

This type was struck across the turbulent decade following the 1979 Islamic Revolution, a period during which Iran was simultaneously dismantling the Pahlavi monetary system, fighting a catastrophic eight-year war with Iraq, and operating under severe international sanctions. The oil derrick motif on the reverse was a deliberate ideological statement — petroleum remained the backbone of revolutionary financing even as the new government publicly condemned the Shah's dependence on it.
Aluminium bronze was chosen partly out of necessity; sanctions disrupted access to the nickel alloys used in earlier Iranian coinage.
