The upper panel carries the title legend in Gothic script, while the lower panel bears the validity clause and the facsimile signature of the Bürgermeister. |

The central vignette, rendered in a coloured letterpress illustration in the manner of Wilhelm Busch, depicts a scene from the Max und Moritz story cycle in which Frau Böck applies a hot iron to the bodies of the two mischievous boys laid across a table, with steam rising from a pot nearby. A two-line rhyming couplet in Gothic script runs along the lower margin. |
