The large numeral '50' occupies a bold black cartouche at centre, below which the denomination 'Pfennig' and the issuing authority 'Notgeld der Stadt Schalkau/Thür.' are inscribed in Gothic letterpress. The lower border carries the validity date and the serial number alongside the issuing office designation 'Bürgermeisteramt', all printed in black and violet on cream paper. |

Vertical columns of Gothic script border the vignette on both left and right sides, carrying the historical verse relating to the episode, with the series number '4' visible at lower left within the composition. |
