Naunhof is a small Saxon town southeast of Leipzig, and in 1921 its local Red Cross voluntary ambulance corps — the Freiwillige Sanitätskolonne — was among hundreds of civic organizations across Germany that issued emergency small-change notes to fill the coin vacuum left by postwar metal shortages.
