| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse is printed in olive-green and dark purple on white paper, with an ornamental border of stylised foliate and zoomorphic motifs framing the central vignette. A bold diamond-shaped guilloche panel in dark green and black contains the large white numeral '50', below which the denomination 'PFENNIG' is set in letterpress. The issuer inscription 'STADT KÖLN 1922' appears across the top, with the voucher legend 'GUTSCHEIN ÜBER' immediately below; a red circular official seal of the city of Cologne is applied to the lower left, accompanied by a handwritten signature of the Oberbürgermeister and a printed date of 12 January 1922. |

The central vignette, signed by the artist Schmelzle-Lehmann, illustrates a dramatic scene from the Cologne legend of the Heinzelmännchen — a tumbling mass of fantastical dwarves spilling chaotically down a staircase bathed in orange light, with a cherub-like figure observing from above. The inscription 'NOTGELD DER STADT KÖLN' runs along the upper border, while 'DIE HEINZELMÄNNCHEN VON KÖLN' is lettered across the lower margin. |
