Two classically rendered allegorical male figures flank the portrait, each holding a blank pennant. A bold arched banner at the top carries the legend 'DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES', referencing the national anthem whose text Hoffmann authored, while the denomination '50 Pf.' in large ornamental type and the legend 'NOTGELD DER STADT HÖXTER' in block capitals occupy the lower panel, with the printer's imprint in small ochre type at the foot. |
