Obverse description The obverse presents a letterpress-printed vignette of a medieval street scene within the old town of Kronach, rendered in a bold Jugendstil woodcut style by F. Schwarz, with red-roofed half-timbered buildings, a fortified gateway, and a church spire rising against a pale sky. The denomination "50" appears in large red numerals within rectangular panels at left and right, with "Pfg" (Pfennig) below each, while the heading "Notgeld der Stadt Kronach" and the year "1921" are inscribed in Gothic blackletter across the top. A validity clause in Gothic script along the lower margin reads "Dieser Gutschein verliert seine Gültigkeit einen Monat nach erfolgter öffentlicher Bekanntmachung. Kronach, im Jahre 1921. Der Stadtrat:", followed by a manuscript signature.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a central vignette of the Kronach municipal coat of arms — a quartered shield bearing three red roses and two crowns with a white rose — set within an ornate oval cartouche and flanked by two classically rendered male figures rendered in anatomical Jugendstil style. Decorative scroll and foliage patterns fill the lateral panels, each containing a red "50" numeral in an oval medallion. "Kronach" is inscribed in Gothic blackletter at the top centre, with "fünfzig" at upper left and right and "Pfennig" at lower left and right; the artist's signature "F. SCHWARZ" appears at the lower centre.
