Augustenborg is a small town on the island of Als — historically part of the Duchy of Schleswig, ceded by Denmark to Prussia after the 1864 war and then subject to a plebiscite in 1920 that returned the northern zone to Denmark. This note was issued directly in that transitional window, when local administrations across the region were scrambling to cover a chronic shortage of small change. The Fleckenskollegium — essentially the town council operating under its old Danish-era designation — issued this alongside a parallel series under the German title Byraadet, reflecting the bilingual administrative uncertainty of the moment.
