Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Charles III occupies the central field, modelled by Martin Jennings in a naturalistic portrait style with finely rendered facial features and cropped hair. The legend CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2024 runs continuously around the periphery, interrupted by raised circular stops, conforming to the heptagonal coin shape. The engraver's initials MJ appear discreetly below the portrait truncation at lower right. The mirror-polished proof fields contrast sharply with the frosted relief of the effigy, accentuating the three-dimensional modelling. No crown or other regalia is depicted, consistent with the standard definitive portrait introduced for Charles III coinage.
