The Isle of Man has no constitutional connection to D-Day or the Normandy campaign, but its status as a Crown Dependency outside the United Kingdom allows its treasury to issue legal tender commemoratives on virtually any subject — a regulatory freedom that British and Channel Island mints cannot exploit in the same way.
