The Isle of Man has no constitutional connection to D-Day or the Normandy campaign, but its status as a Crown Dependency outside the United Kingdom allows its treasury to issue legal tender commemoratives on virtually any subject — a regulatory freedom that British and Channel Island mints cannot exploit in the same way. The island's numismatic program has leaned heavily into this since the 1970s.
Operation Overlord on 6 June 1944 involved over 156,000 Allied troops crossing the Channel in the largest seaborne invasion ever attempted, coordinated across five beach sectors under Supreme Commander Eisenhower.
