50 Heller Schönbichl

A product of Austria's postwar Notgeld crisis, when the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left rural municipalities scrambling to cover a catastrophic shortage of small change. Schönbichl, a minor Lower Austrian commune, had this 50 Heller note printed locally by F. Kielar of Amstetten — a practical choice, as Amstetten was the nearest town of any commercial significance. Three signatories were required to validate the issue: the Bürgermeister, Vicebürgermeister, and a Gemeinderat, suggesting the commune was taking no chances with the note's local legitimacy.

F. Kielar produced utilitarian work for several small municipalities in the Amstetten district during this period.
