| Obverse description | Blue intaglio note with an elaborate oval guilloche border framing the central text. The denomination 'cinquante francs.' is inscribed in large script at centre, below 'BANQUE DE L'ALGÉRIE' and the date and place of issue 'ALGER, le…', with 'PAYABLES A VUE AU PORTEUR' beneath; Arabic text appears below the French legends. Allegorical putti and sea-creature vignettes flank the oval frame, with the numeral 50 in large format on both lateral panels and the designer and engraver credits 'H. GABASSON INV. ET DEL. 1872' and 'V. BI RIRAND SCULP.' at the lower margin. |
