"BANQUE NATIONALE DE BELGIQUE" arches across the top in bold letterpress, while the denomination "50 FRANCS OU 10 BELGAS PAYABLES A VUE" and the overprint "TRÉSORERIE" appear to the right alongside a large circular watermark void. Signature lines for "LE TRÉSORIER" and "LE GOUVERNEUR" are placed at the foot of the note, with date and serial number in the upper corners, the whole framed by elaborate guilloche borders. |

The "Trésorerie" designation in the title is misleading — this was a full Banque Nationale issue, not a treasury note. The label stuck because the 1927 type was originally conceived as part of a broader monetary stabilization program following the catastrophic devaluation of the Belgian franc under the Poincaré-era pressures of the mid-1920s, with the belga unit introduced in 1926 at 5 francs to give the denomination scale a more stable anchor.
Anto Carte was a symbolist painter, an unusual choice for banknote design work. Minguet handled the intaglio engraving on the face; Poortman, a prolific engraver at the Belgian printing establishment, took the reverse. The series ran across more than a decade, overlapping with both the German occupation and the wartime government-in-exile in London.
