Surrounding the central motif are elements of Her Majesty's Royal insignia alongside sprigs of Australia's floral emblem, the golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha). Floral motifs referencing the aromatic oils used in the Coronation anointing — including neroli, jasmine, rose, and cinnamon — are incorporated into the decorative surround. The royal cypher EIIR appears in the field, with the denomination 50 and the commemorative legend completing the design. |

The commemorative marking Elizabeth II surpassing Victoria as the longest-reigning British monarch fell on September 9, 2015 — the date she exceeded 63 years, 216 days on the throne. Australia was among several Commonwealth mints that issued pieces for the occasion, though the RAM's cupro-nickel circulation-format release was one of the more understated responses to the milestone, pressed into ordinary change rather than boxed for collectors.
