The bilingual peripheral legend reads HONG KONG at the top and FIFTY CENTS at the bottom, flanked by decorative star ornaments, with the date to the right. A fine beaded border runs along the outer rim, consistent with the medal alignment of the coin.

The transition away from the first Gillick portrait came as Hong Kong's economy was accelerating sharply through the 1960s, meaning late-date examples from this series saw genuine heavy circulation in one of the world's most commercially active ports.
