| 表面の説明 | The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Rwanda centrally, featuring a shield with a knot motif flanked by a sorghum plant and a coffee branch, surmounted by a sun and two interlaced rings, with a ribbon below bearing the national motto. The legend 'BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA' arcs along the upper rim in Latin script, while the denomination 'AMAFARANGA 50 MIRONGO ITANU' is inscribed along the lower rim. The coat of arms is rendered in high relief within a recessed inner circle, set against a smooth field. The overall design follows standard Rwandan coin heraldic conventions. |

Rwanda's central bank has issued a long-running series of mountain gorilla coins since the early 2000s, largely aimed at the collector and bullion crossover market. The "anniversary" designation here marks a milestone within that series rather than any event in Rwandan political or monetary history. Mountain gorillas were reduced to fewer than 300 individuals by the mid-1980s before conservation efforts — complicated significantly by the 1994 genocide, which left Volcanoes National Park effectively unguarded for months — reversed the population decline. Current counts exceed 1,000.
