To the right of the emblem, the legends GREAT JOURNEY and STEPPING FORWARD appear in bold blue lettering. The peripheral legend 70th ANNIVERSARY OF LIBERATION arcs along the upper rim, while the lower rim bears the inscription 2015 · THE BANK OF KOREA · 50000 WON.

The liberation date — known in Korea as Gwangbokjeol, literally "day of the restoration of light" — remains one of the most politically charged dates on the peninsula, observed simultaneously as a national holiday in both South and North Korea, albeit with sharply different official narratives attached to it.
