Beschrijving voorzijde A stylized sunrise composition dominates the field, with radial lines emanating from a centrally positioned colour-applied golden sun rising above the horizon, rendered in applied yellow enamel. Below the horizon, a winding river or road rendered in high relief and dark inlay curves through the lower field in an S-shaped form, evoking a journey forward. The Hangul legend 광복 70년 (70th Anniversary of Liberation) appears in the upper field, with the secondary legend 위대한 여정 새로운 도약 (Great Journey, New Leap) inscribed below it. The denomination and issuer inscription 2015·한국은행·오만원 is incuse along the lower rim.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule on August 15, 1945, this coin is part of a broader commemorative program the Bank of Korea has maintained around significant national anniversaries since the 1970s. The liberation date — known in Korea as Gwangbokjeol, literally "day of the restoration of light" — remains one of the most politically charged dates on the peninsula, observed simultaneously as a national holiday in both South and North Korea, albeit with sharply different official narratives attached to it.
