| Description de l’avers | The obverse depicts multiple architectural landmarks of Novokuznetsk rendered in high relief against a mirror field. The central and dominant motif is the Transfiguration Cathedral (Спасо-Преображенский собор), a grand Baroque-style Orthodox church with twin bell towers surmounted by onion domes and crosses, occupying the left and central portions of the field. To the upper right, a secondary vignette shows another historic religious building, while below it a neoclassical rotunda structure is depicted in relief. Novokuznetsk sits in the Kemerovo Oblast of southwestern Siberia, a city built almost entirely around Soviet-era metallurgical industry.
