| Descrizione del rovescio | The reverse, executed in dark brown, gold, and red, is dominated by the full Bavarian royal coat of arms surmounted by a royal crown and supported on either side by rampant crowned lions grasping flagpoles bearing the Bavarian lozenge standard. Twisted column pilasters frame the central heraldic composition against a cross-hatched ground, with the curved inscription BAYERISCHE NOTENBANK arching across the top. The Bayerische Notenbank was one of four German state banks still holding the legal right to issue their own banknotes under the Reichsbank Law of 1875 — the others being Baden, Saxony, and Württemberg. That privilege, already an anachronism by the Weimar period, became a genuine operational problem in 1923 when the state banks were forced to keep pace with the Reichsbank's own hyperinflationary emissions. This 50-million Mark note is a product of that scramble, printed locally in Munich as the Reich's central machinery struggled to supply enough paper to meet demand.
Bavaria's political atmosphere in late 1923 was combustible — the Hitler-Ludendorff putsch attempt came in November of that year, weeks after notes at this denomination level were in circulation.
