| 表面の説明 | Cast bronze cash coin of the Eastern Han Wu Zhu type, featuring a central square perforation surrounded by a raised square rim. The two-character inscription 五銖 (Wu Zhu, meaning '5 Zhu') is cast in regular seal script (lishu), read from right to left in the fields flanking the central hole. At least one crescent or half-moon mark appears below the square perforation in the lower field, serving as a mint or workshop identifier. The outer rim is plain and slightly raised, enclosing the design field, which displays the characteristic green patination typical of Eastern Han bronze coinage. |

By the late Eastern Han period, central mint authority had largely collapsed. Provincial casting proliferated, and quality control became inconsistent to the point of irrelevance. The half-moon marks — crescent-shaped depressions appearing on the rims or fields — remain incompletely understood; some scholars attribute them to die or mold identification practice, others to post-casting workshop sorting. No consensus exists.
Hartill 10.34 sits within a cluster of late Han types that blur into the Three Kingdoms issues of the early third century, making precise attribution genuinely difficult for individual specimens.
