| Descrizione del dritto | Printed in black on a light blue guilloche underprint, the obverse bears a top panel inscribed 'MILITARY CURRENCY' with denomination expressed in both Roman script ('FIVE YEN') and kanji (五圓) repeated at each corner. A large outlined letter 'A' in blue occupies the central underprint field within an arched guilloche ground, flanked by ornate intaglio scrollwork vignettes; the series and serial number designations appear twice within the central area. The kanji 軍票 (military scrip) is set within a framed cartouche at the bottom centre. |

Allied Military Currency for Japan was produced in the United States under strict wartime-carry-over secrecy, with Series 100 notes — identifiable by the "A" block letter prefix — introduced specifically for the post-surrender occupation. The yen-denominated MPC was legal tender throughout occupied Japan, designed to insulate the Japanese monetary system from dollar-based black market arbitrage that had badly undermined earlier occupation currencies in other theaters.
The "A-note" designation comes from collector convention, not official Allied nomenclature. Series 100 was withdrawn and replaced relatively quickly as occupation financial controls tightened through 1946–1947.
