The Allied Military Authority schilling notes were printed in London for use in Austria following the 1945 liberation, though the 1944 date reflects when production was authorized and plates prepared — well before troops actually reached Vienna. The series was a joint Allied instrument, meaning the same designs circulated regardless of which occupation zone a given note ended up in: Soviet, American, British, or French.
Bradbury Wilkinson produced the run to a reasonably secure specification given the circumstances, including a watermark — unusual for what was essentially emergency occupation currency.
