The Robin Hood legend, though rooted in medieval ballads, was systematically promoted as a distinctly English folk mythology during the 19th century — Marian's role elevated largely through stage adaptations rather than early source texts, where she is often absent entirely. This coin belongs to a Royal Mint series revisiting British folklore, issued under the new reign partly as a way of distinguishing Charles III's commemorative program from his mother's decades-long run of similar formats.
