The "LEY" overprint distinguishes this issue from the otherwise identical P#287 series — a legal designation acknowledging the monetary reform law that authorized the peso ley 18.188, which effectively redenominated Argentine currency at 100 old pesos moneda nacional to 1 new peso ley. The overprint was a stopgap while new plates were prepared, a common Argentine practice during the chronic monetary turbulence of the early 1970s.
Casa de Moneda produced the full series domestically. Jorge Nicastro and Adelma Cabrera were both staff engravers there — a rare instance of named Argentine engravers on a circulating note of this period.
