正面描述 Central field features a raised rectangular portrait panel depicting the effigy of José Gervasio Artigas, rendered in high relief as a facing three-quarter bust with naturalistic detail; the name ARTIGAS appears in raised lettering directly below the portrait panel. To the left of the portrait, the denomination N$5 is prominently displayed in large incuse numerals. The lower field bears a three-line commemorative inscription reading SESQUICENTENARIO / DE MDCCCXXV / URUGUAY, marking the 150th anniversary of Uruguayan independence. A small engraver's initial appears at the lower edge of the portrait panel. The coin exhibits a broad flat rim with reeded edge.

附加信息

Uruguay's 1975 military government commissioned multiple pattern strikes in experimental compositions as the country worked through a currency redenomination — the "nuevo peso" system having replaced the old peso at 1:1000 in 1975. Aluminium was tested for higher denominations precisely because the metal kept face value well above intrinsic value, a real concern during the inflation that had helped destabilize the preceding civilian government. This particular pattern was never adopted; the circulating 5 Nuevos Pesos struck for general use came in cupro-nickel.
