| Reverse description | The inner field depicts a potato adorned with decorative straws, a traditional Latvian interior ornament, positioned at centre and surrounded by four figures representing Latvian seasonal folk traditions: Father Christmas, a girl swinging at Easter, a Midsummer celebrant, and costumed mummers associated with Martinmas and Shrovetide. The outer ring bears a circular legend naming the ancient seasonal celebrations: ZIEMASSVĒTKI (Christmas), METEŅI (Shrovetide), LIELDIENAS (Easter), ŪSIŅI, JĀŅI, MĀRAS, MIĶEĻI, and MĀRTIŅI (Martinmas). The country name LATVIJA is inscribed diagonally to the upper right of centre, with the date 2014 placed to the right. |

| Additional information |
Latvijas Banka launched its "Coin of the Seasons" series in 2014 as part of a broader push toward collector-focused issues following Latvia's accession to the Eurozone on January 1st of that year — the country's first year as a euro-adopting state. The timing was deliberate: a distinctly Latvian silver issue at a moment when the lats, in circulation since 1922 with interruptions, was being permanently retired.
KM#163 is the Spring installment, the first in the four-piece series, each released sequentially through the year.
