Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the Italian Republic's Senate, established under the 1948 Constitution that replaced the appointed Senate of the Kingdom with an elected chamber. The transition was a deliberate break from the Fascist-era corporatist upper house, which had been reduced to a rubber stamp under Mussolini's regime.
