The bank's title, THE CANADIAN BANK OF COMMERCE, runs across the top border, with the denomination FIVE DOLLARS in large letterpress type at centre-left beneath the promise clause WILL PAY TO BEARER ON DEMAND. A circular guilloche vignette to the right displays the bank's coat of arms with a sailing ship, and the date TORONTO, 2ND JANUARY, 1917 appears at lower centre. Large ornamental V numerals appear in each upper corner and lower corner, with serial numbers in red flanking the central vignette. |
